Let’s get ready for your first adult ballet class together!
Hello, I am Chaerish.
Starting ballet as an adult can make even the basics, like preparing the essentials and wearing ballet attire, feel challenging.
Here’s a list of essential items and helpful information to get you started.
1. **Ballet Attire**
- Leotard
- Tights
- Ballet skirt or wrap skirt
Wearing a leotard for the first time can feel awkward, and it might be hard to figure out how to wear it properly.
I personally don’t use chest pads inside my leotard, but if you feel uncomfortable about transparency, you can wear chest pads underneath.
Alternatively, you can use nipple cover stickers for added comfort.
Tights can be worn either under or over the leotard, depending on personal preference. Just choose the method that feels most comfortable for you—there’s no need to overthink it.
Also, keep in mind that underwear is not typically worn under ballet attire.
2. **Ballet Shoes**
- Flat ballet shoes
- Pointe shoes (for advanced students only)
3. **Hair Accessories**
- Hair pins
- Hair net
- Headband (optional)
I tie my hair at home before going to class.
While hair gel can help create a neat look, it’s not good for hair health, so I use aloe gel instead.
4. **Additional Accessories**
- Leg warmers
Additionally, I sometimes wear a sweat suit to help keep my body warm.
- Stretch band
- Yoga mat (optional for stretching)
Yoga mats are sometimes provided by the ballet studio, so it’s worth checking in advance.
I carry a massage ball with me to help relax tense muscles before and after class. It’s great for relieving muscle tension.
5. **Personal Items**
- Water bottle
- Towel
Having these essentials ready in advance will help you feel more comfortable and prepared for your ballet class.
